Summer in Mexico: Spanish Language & Culture

Curriculum and Faculty

Global Learning Semesters is partnered with the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara (UAG) for our Summer in Mexico: Spanish Language and Culture programs. Our host institution is fully accredited and will provide the transcript for students successfully completing academic course work.

The programs are designed and administered by the Centro Internacional de Idiomas (CII) and the UAG. Students enrolled in the program obtain official credit from the UAG. The summer term lasts for 4 weeks and courses are worth between 2 and 3 credits (40-45 class hours). The CII is a part of the UAG and it is fully endorsed by UAG and the Secretaria de Educacon Publica, Mexico's equivalent of a Ministry of Education.


Curriculum

The Summer in Mexico: Spanish Language and Culture has several different options for students to choose from that allows them to improve their Spanish language skills and get an introduction to the history and culture of Mexico. This program's strength lies in the fact that it is OPEN to students of ALL SPANISH LEVELS and includes various content courses taught in English on a wide array of topics related to Mexican politics, history, culture, civilization and archaeology, among others.

There are 3 curriculum options for the Summer in Mexico: Spanish Language and Culture program. These range from 4 to 8 credits. Students may select one of the following:
  • 4 credits of Spanish grammar and conversation (40 hours grammar and 40 hours conversation) at the appropriate level (1-8).
  • 4 credits of Spanish grammar and conversation (40 hours grammar and 40 hours conversation) at the appropriate level (1-8) and 3 credits from 1 content course taught in English on Mexican politics, history, culture, civilization and archaeology, among others.
  • 2 credits of Spanish grammar (40 hours grammar) at the appropriate level (1-8) and 6 credits from 2 content courses taught in English on Mexican politics, history, culture, civilization and archaeology, among others.

Placement Test

Students must take a standard language placement test in order to be assigned correctly to their appropriate level for the Spanish grammar and conversation course.
