Other Frequently Asked questions:
How do students travel on GLS programs?
Students generally travel by plane and professional charter bus on our programs, with some occasional segments done by day-train or ferry (on selected programs). We only use commercially licensed local charter bus operators (or taxis for short distances) for our ground travel. Air transportation is handled by well-known American, European or international airlines.
Students are always accompanied by a Global Learning Semesters coordinator when they travel. The coordinator's primary role is to ensure the smooth operation of the travel component of the program.
What type of facilities will my son or daughter be staying in?
Our students typically stay in off-campus apartments with two students to a bedroom. The apartments are safe, clean and have modern amenities. In Spain, apartments are more of a residence hall/dorm style environment. In Belize, students stay a local, simple resort.
Room assignment occurs after the participant list for a semester is finalized. We will attempt to accommodate any reasonable roommate or housing preferences, but cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so. Apartments are same-sex. Single supplements (per bedroom, not per apartment) are sometimes available as an additional cost option.
When students travel, they stay in tourist-class hotels, not hostels. These hotels are clean, safe, comfortable and reasonably located. On these trips, students stay two to a room (same-sex) in the vast majority of cases. There may be occasions when students will stay three to a room (same-sex) in a triple room.
Does my son or daughter need medical insurance?
All Global Learning Semesters, Inc. students are automatically purchased emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance. The limits are $100,000 with $100 deductible for medical, unlimited medical evacuation and $20,000 for repatriation.
The specific study abroad insurance coverage used is Marsh Study Abroad Global Reach and coverage is provided by AIG. Standard exemptions apply for risky activities like scuba diving or professional sports. This policy does not cover personal belongings.
Can I come visit my son or daughter on the program?
Absolutely! We welcome parent visits during the course of the program. We will be happy to help you make arrangements to come visit us while your son's or daughter's classes are in session.
We do not generally recommend that you visit during the travel component of our programs because the travel schedule can be quite intense and students do not have large amounts of free time.
