Summer in Florence: Art & Design

Curriculum and Faculty

This program is based at Santa Reparata International School of Art, our host institution. All courses are accredited and taught in English by our host institution's regular faculty. Students that successfully complete their coursework will receive a Santa Reparata transcript. Students may opt for a transcript of our School of record - Maryville University in St. Louis - at an additional fee. 

Students studying during the summer enroll for a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 credit hours for each of the 2 sessions. Students can combine academic lecture courses with hands-on studio courses for an intensive learning experience. 

Students may take maximum of 1 studio course per session.

All applicants should aim to receive course pre-approval from their home institution.

 

Summer Program

June session: 4 weeks (3-6 credits)

July session: 4 weeks (3-6 credits)

Students may attend the first, the second, or both sessions.

 

Subjects

Photography, Printmaking, Book Arts, Painting, Drawing, Art History, Art Restoration, History, Music Appreciation, Politics and Social Science, Literature, Creative Writing, Cinema (Film Studies), Journalism, Fashion Design, Jewelry Design, Textiles Design, Italian Language (all levels), Intensive Italian.

 

Classroom Structure & Instruction

Academic Lecture Classes meet 4 hours daily, Monday through Thursday. All academic classes have two all-day field trips. Classes combine in-class lectures, discussion, and on-site visits.

 

Studio Classes

These hands-on courses meet 4 hours per day, Monday through Thursday. One Friday field trip is scheduled per session. Studio courses combine studio instruction, in-class demonstrations, and slide presentations. When possible students go on-site to work or visit exhibits and museums of relevance to the subject studied. Academic Lecture Classes meet 4 hours daily, Monday through Thursday. All academic classes have two all-day field trips. Classes combine in-class lectures, discussion, and on-site visits.

NOTE:

Students can also take COMM-280: Intercultural Communications. This is a 3-credit, online course offered by the University of Nicosia, Cyprus. Students will attend the course online, and the University of Nicosia will issue the transcripts.
