Global Semester: World Cultures
Program Description
This
study abroad program brings students to four of the greatest cultures and civilizations that the world has ever known:
Greece, Rome, India and
China . The cumulative artistic, philosophical, religious, cultural and social output of these societies is staggering and has exerted a tremendous influence on the underpinnings of Western and Eastern civilization.
The
study abroad program aims to balance study of the historical aspects of these societies with a more modern appreciation of cultural and societal differences. We are entering a modern era of globalization where the United States, Europe and Asia will play important and complementary roles.
By reflecting on the historical and cultural traditions that have built these societies, students develop a deeper appreciation of cultural similarities and differences. As the world becomes smaller and we interact more across cultures, the ability to adapt to and bridge these cultural differences becomes an increasingly important skill set.
